Beautiful sight this morning with trees glimmering with snow. Gets one in
the mood for some Christmas shopping. Christmas may be a little slim, but
it is the spirit that counts:
Herman Cain invited the Battle Creek Tea Party
to lunch. He had been debating in Michigan and
afterwards toured various cities in Michigan including
Battle Creek. With little notice about 250 people
quickly assembled for lunch at a small favorite
conservative restaurant. Herman was very
approachable and seemed just like “us.” He
said that he decided to run due to government’s
over-regulations when attempting to create and
run a business.
Tom Watkins, a US/China business
and educational consultant and past State of
Michigan Superintendent from 2001-05, suggests
“that we need to imagine and embrace a better future”
to economically compete globally in this
technological world of ours.
“We must transform education if we are to find new
opportunities and to thrive.” He states, “We can
keep the status quo and watch the world go by; or
reinvent and invest wisely in ourselves to become
an international economic magnet for people so they
will want to stay and return to Michigan.”
It’s true, “We have lost a decade” and will continue
to slide further into the abyss unless we drastically
change our public school system. Our students
are not only illiterate in reading, math, science,
and geography, but also in technology. Why is this?
Perhaps we need to look at the educational system
and ask some hard questions. As an example, “Why
do we need to continue to build physical buildings?”
We have limited financial resources and a large
proportion of it is being spent and perhaps wasted
on energy to heat buildings, bussing students to
school, and on duplicating educational programs from
district to district.
To compete, our schools and students need ipads, smart
phones, computers, wi-fi, and virtual classrooms etc.
to learn and to meet and visit with other students across
the globe and to communicate and visit with private
industries and personnel. We know that the pace of
technology is changing rapidly and individuals let alone
schools are finding it difficult to keep up and compete
with this advancing technology primarily due to a lack
of resources.
Perhaps, it is time too for students to take initiative for
their own learning. Families can be given the needed
tools to assist their children. This will also help the
inner city families to have access to the Internet to
close the opportunity gap. Schools can provide guidance
and curriculum to students and their parents. Think of
it, “Do students need to attend school five days a week?”
Heck most inner city students don’t attend school anyway
due to bullying and crime. Attendance is very poor,
because kids today are afraid to go to school, be in school,
and to go home from school. More and more adults are
working from home, why not our students? Furthermore,
why not have school doors open all year round with a
flexible schedule to meet families’ needs and time
schedules?
This may result in the loss of teaching jobs and teaching
associations, but perhaps this will transform instruction
and create new types of teaching jobs and educational
opportunities. We are no longer living in an agrarian
society. Our students will not only be moving in from
varying states across the nation, but will also be coming
from many countries and continents. Computers can help
bridge the language barrier. It does not matter what
language a child speaks, because computers are now
capable of automatically translating the spoken and
written word.
As Tom Watkins closes, “The question now remains, will we?”

Today’s Detroit Sunday Free Press Story Headline Story reads “Homeowners
forced out while seeking relief! Fannie Mae pressures banks to foreclose,
contrary to its promises to keep families in homes, preserve neighborhoods.”
Why did the HOPE program not work and why wouldn’t the banks
not work with homeowners? As the story and truth unfolds, Fannie Mae
is in essence bankrupt. To save Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, these two
government entitties are desperately trying to get debt off of their books
to look good and to protect their shareholders so that they can stay in
business. Thus, even today they are forcing banks to foreclose especially
on people who are behind in their mortgages by 1 year or more.
One might say well of course if a homeowner is a year or more behind
in their mortgage they should be foreclosed. However, most of the loan
modification programs were taking 5 to 6 months to close, and to apply for
a loan modification homeowners had to be at least 1 to 3 payments behind
to even be considered for the loan modification program. Furthermore,
homeowners were being led on and promised a loan modification by their bank
especially if they had experienced a loss in income due to the economy.
One must understand too that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are owned by
the government and therefore are in direct conflict with the nationalized banks.
Fannie Mae hungry for money knows that once a foreclosure takes place the
taxpayers rather than Fannie Mae is on the hook to bailout the bad loans.
In addition, the O’bama administration wants to spread the wealth around.
Obama is looking at the possibility of taking all of the foreclosures and making
them into Section 8 houses to diversify neighborhoods and to give low income
people nicer homes and neighborhoods to live and prosper as wealth is
spread around and redistributed.
The HOPE program was/is a sham …just that… “hope and change.”
The banks said one thing, but the government turned around and said
the exact opposite. The government is at war with the citizens of the
United States. And that is the truth. That’s the design of the whole
program — all smoke and mirrors.
The only problem is that the huge number of foreclosures are depressing the
neighborshoods and slowing economic recovery. The housing market is causing
the government to lose more revenue than predicted. Yet, at least Fannie Mae
and Freddie Mac can still remain in business to start this whole viscious cycle
over again. You can thank Senator Barnie Franke, the man behind Fannie Mae.
Obama and the Federal Reserve are also going to do Qe3 to stimulate the
economy some more by again flooding the market with more dollars.
So be prepared for more foreclosure as people continue to lose their jobs
and spending power to inflation as a direct result of this administration’s bad
policies.
Homeowners are now just figuring-out what we in this industry having
been saying all along. If you want to save your home, you will have to fight and
sue the bank/lender to save your home by going directly to the bank’s legal
department. The servicing companies don’t have the authority or power to
complete loan modifications.

I
Today is Sunday and I was wondering what
religion our Founding Fathers practiced. Googling
a list, I found that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
James Madison, James Monroe were affiliated with
the Episcopal Church, and John Adams was raised as
a Congregationalist, but became an Unitarian as an adult.
Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and Benjamin
Franklin were also considered deists.
Now not knowing for sure what a deist believed, I googled
some more to find that a deist believes that God is the
creator, Nature is the law, and Matter is acted upon.
Deists consider themselves to be freethinkers. They act
and behave according to logic and reason. They do not
believe in miracles.
In church this last day in July, congregations across
this land are praying that our leaders will find a
solution to our debt crisis. In fact, our house is
so divided that some are hoping for a miracle in the
form of a compromise. There can be no compromise in
the face of reality.
We supposedly have only 2 more days until the U.S.
defaults for the first time in history. The President,
Democrats and even some Rhino Republicans are spurning
the Tea Party for getting in the way of raising the debt
ceiling. They ask why there cannot be compromise as
always done in the past, but this is not business as usual.
The stakes and consequences are too high when we are
spending trillions of dollars. The Tea Party elected
officials understand this and so are holding onto their
principals. Their beliefs are based upon common sense
and logic. Their reasoning is irrefutable and of truth.
Our Great Nation simply cannot sustain the excessive
spending when revenue falls completely short of even
the interest we must pay on the borrowed money needed to
pay our bills. We have a huge deficit and no money
spent will even begin to pay down on the debt unless there
is serious cutting. Kicking the can down the road will
only cause more pain in the future. The clock is ticking.
Now is the time to address the problem and to find a real
solution. Technically, we are in bankruptcy and the law
of nature and economics will determine whether or not this
Republic is able to survive.
I conclude, there is a higher law among men that is based
on ethics and morality. Our Republic, freedoms and liberty
exist, because we acknowledge a higher power that is not
based upon Men’s desires. This country was built with
the understanding and premise of a much higher authority.
Therefore, our standards must be higher. It gives us order
and balance in every aspect of our lives including financial
matters. We must follow reason and rally around the Tea
Party movement.
Finally Marco Rubio, a young Senator from Florida
in plain English explains the real problems of this
Great Nation and of Washington D.C., and what
now needs to be done to save this great house from
burning down. Just raising the debt ceiling does no
good when excessive spending isn’t addressed and
stopped. To do otherwise, causes our nation to lose
its triple A rating and will cause inflation and interest
rates to rise for all Americans. To not have a cut, cap,
and balanced budget will also prevent the creation of jobs so
desperately needed in this country, and as a means to
bring in the additional revenue for the government and
without having to raise taxes. It is easy to raise the debt
ceiling, but that alone is no solution. There can be no
compromise when the stakes are this high and the real
problem is ignored. President Obama can either
choose to lead or face the outrage of the masses in the
next election.
Today, Sunday (July 24, 2011) is our country’s last
chance to get back to black by establishing a balanced
and sane budget. If we are to raise the debt ceiling to
prevent default and the paying of our bills, then the
obscene spending as proposed by President Obama’s
Administration must stop and Congress must learn to
live within its means. Otherwise this great country
will die like Rome and become just another unexceptional
socialistic country or worse. The Republicans and Democrats
have a choice to come together and save this nation. The question
is will they or won’t they? Some people say it is already too
late especially since the government thinks it needs
to control the population into the 21st century. I
hope that this is not the case. Certainly, it will probably
take a decade and a generation more to return back to our
founding fathers’ principal of life, liberty, and the
pursuit of happiness. With fiscal responsibility we
can achieve our dreams and protect this country from
foreign and domestic enemies through strength.
We should all send our prayers to the Capitol and White
House in Washington D.C. to do the right thing! And
by all means extend a special prayer to Norway and may
Amy Winehouse rest in peace. I hadn’t heard any of
Amy’s music and words of depression and struggle until
today. The hour is here to live or die.
This evening I paid my respects to Elizabeth Bloomer Ford
at the Gerald R Ford Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
She is being laid to rest tomorrow, but tonight the public
was invited to view her casket. The background showed
a documentary of her life including some information
regarding her parents. I appreciated her graciousness,
but honesty and frankness. She certainly fought for
women’s rights, but in an indirect but effective manner.
She spoke of breast cancer when the word
breasts was not allowed to be spoken on the
radio, and also helped people who became
addicted to prescriptive drugs for pain and combined
drugs with evening cocktails. She gave the job of housewife
new meaning and with pride too.
My mother loved Betty Ford, because she and
her friends were all housewives! In the fifties, most
women did not work or have a professional life outside
of the home. My mother cooked, cleaned, washed &
iron clothes, acted as nurse, hosted dinner parties, had coffees,
arranged flowers, decorated dad’s office, made cookies for everyone,
volunteered for the elderly, put on church dinners, held
den meetings, played room mother, and in her spare time gardened,
sewed or made pottery for sanity sake. I couldn’t
match her energy and drive. That’s why I went down
to say good bye to Elizabeth Ford and her dancing
spirit. I wanted to feel the moment and reminensce about
the past and the good old days.
While standing in line, I also meet two ladies from the
Grand Rapids area named Maxine (a housewife I believe)
and Joanne (a physician). We all shared similar feelings and
left as friends. In passing, I just wanted to mention that the parking
was free for attending during this historical moment in time,
small water bottles were freely distributed, and a sympathy
and support card from her children, Mike, Jack, Steve
and Susan were handed to us on leaving. We saw the
changing of the guard just before we stood in front of
her flowered casket. The soldiers of each branch of service
stood so still — almost like a statue. And speaking of statues,
Betty’s husband, President Jerry Ford, greeted us at the
entrance door – her favorite one. It did look just like him
as I remembered him as I had once met him live from a far
when running for office.
In closing:
I can stop one heart from breaking.
I shall not live in vain:
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again.
I shall not live in vain.
– Emily Dickinson
Yes, Betty and my mother both found their
voice and purpose – both first ladies in my
book.
Calling spending an epidemic and one of the greatest threats to America’s health and economy, first lady Michelle Obama said Wednesday that she would launch a major initiative next week to combat the problem in Congress.
Obama, speaking at a meeting of the Conference of U.S. Legislatures, said the idea was simple: “To put in place common-sense initiatives and solutions that empower states to make healthy financial decisions for their constituents.” (Of course, it takes a woman to do this.)
EXPERTS: Screen the budget for cutting 4 trillion dollars in excessive spending right now
ADULT-FRIENDLY: Helps fight adulthood addiction to borrowing at home
ADVICE: 7 tips for Democrats and Rhinos to create a healthful nation
The initiative will involve the federal government working with Red State Governors and Local Tea Pary leaders in the business and non-profit sectors, she said, to provide more revenue for schools, allow more opportunities for adults to be employed and physically active, and give more communities access to funds to provide much needed services.
Obama has said she hopes one of her legacies will be her work in reducing adulthood spending, an effort she already has begun by planting seeds in the White House and joining actual responsible financial planning with adults.
She told the mayors that as much as she has read and talked about the problem, “the statistics never fail to take my breath away.”
About 32% of adults are way too heavy in their spending — it’s obscene when it comes especially to eating taxpayers dollars, government statistics show. Did you know almost 80% of congressmen between ages 42 and 85 are simply obsessive or at lease greedy when it comes to their special pet programs. Such adults are at a greater risk for debt-related national economic health problems such as high inflation and taxes, and they have an increased chance of destroying this great nation.
Sarah Palin, ex-governor of Alaska and spokeperson for the Tea Party Society, a group of debt-management researchers and professionals, says it’s crucial to address the problem early: “If you can get adults into healthier spending habits and become more conservative, their spending habits and debt to income ratios may self-correct. If they understand compounding interest and savings they may actually become rich. But once they become obsessive Socialists, Marxists, or Liberal Democrats it’s difficult if not impossible to reverse their financial picture,” she says.
Influence as first lady, American Taxpayers and debt-management experts have expressed hope that Obama will have an influence.
“Everybody has been wringing their hands for three decades about what a big problem this is, but having the first lady involved could really make a difference,” says Paul Ryan, committe chairperson for the Debt and Means Committee for the Center for Finances in the Public Interest. “The first lady not only brings the weight of the White House, but she also understands this issue as a parent.”
Obama acknowledged the difficulties parents face. “It wasn’t that long ago that I was juggling a full-time job of filling-out medicaid applications with the round-the-clock role of being a mom,” she said. “And there were plenty of times when after a long day at work, when the fridge was empty and the kids were hungry, that I just used my own food stamp card, because it was easier than scrounging around for nickles and dimes.” Or we went to the mosque or food pantry for macaroni and cheese, because it was either cheap or free. And I wasn’t always aware of how all the bills and borrowing in some of the processed governmental programs I was using or promoting were all adding up.
“It got to the point where Uncle Sam had to tap me on the shoulder and say, ‘You know, you might want to consider making some changes in your family’s diet and budget.’ ”
She said many parents and other taxpayers “desperately want to do what’s right. … But too often, the realities of modern life make it feel like the deck is stacked against them.”
They’re tight on money and time, she said. Their communities lack jobs and small businesses that help make the products or services needed to produce the much needed revenue so they can put food on their table. Their budgets, recreation, and travels have already been cut back to the bone at their homes. In fact many are now jobless, homeless or are living with relatives to make ends meet. Personally, we had to cancel our trip to Montana this July due to the budget crisis in D.C..
“They’re inundated with news reports filled with conflicting information and with terms such as GDP & Qe2 that is filled with ingredients they don’t care to understand , let alone know whether those ingredients and programs are healthy.”
‘We have everything we need.
Tackling the problem has been gaining momentum recently. On Sunday, an expert panel recommended that financial advisors, accounting professionals and other media pundits screen congressmen ages 42 and older for wreckless spending and refer all those crazy politicians who want to increase the debt ceiling without cutting spending to comprehensive debt-management programs.
Right now, there aren’t enough debt-management programs for all the legislators especially in the Senate, and those programs aren’t covered by most health insurance plans, experts say. The new recommendation may help change that.
Obama told the governors and mayors she knows adulthood spending is a tough problem.
“This isn’t the kind of problem that can be solved in one year, or even one administration,” she said. “But make no mistake about it, this problem can be solved.
“We don’t need to try some new marxist policies or socialist discoveries to make this happen. This doesn’t require fancy auditing tools or technologies. We have everything we need right now — we have the information, we have the ideas, we have the history, and we have the desire to start solving America’s spending problem.
“The only question is whether we have the will.” We cannot compromise on thsi issue and what we don’t want to happen is for some body to just kick the can down the road. When successful, we can again be proud Americans!
Steps to help stop the obscene spending.
Last summer, the Centers for Financial Planning and Debt Prevention announced steps communities can take to prevent obescene spending. Among the ideas:
•Put taxpayers money back in their pockets so its within an arms reach of their financial institution.
•Improve access to money so entrepreneurs can build facilities to put people back to work.
•Require conservative and sound fiscal planning at all governmental levels.
•Enhance spending nets in areas where government officials could be physically active.
•Enhance infrastructure supporting jobs and lower taxes.
•Discourage consumption of alcohol and taxpayers’ money by politicians.
•Put the dollar back on the gold standard.
Enjoy some tea! It’s delicious and healthy!

Today’s story tells that people are borrowing
again at rates higher than three years ago. Either
people are borrowing more, because they are broker
or are more confident in the economy. If people think
the economy is stronger then they are in for a rude
awakening. Wall Street showed signs of being bullish,
but it’s about to take a plunge like occurred in the
Great Depression. Of course, the media will say this
is so unexpectant like the unemployment rate is so
unexpectant. The government and media are lying to
the public and the sheep are buying into it.
Americans still want the good life and so must
think positively. They are conditioned and thus
are sliding back into their old bad habits. The
banks are getting fat again. I was hoping
people were learning how to live lean, but I
guess not.
I personally have been shedding debt like
crazy these last three years. It’s been sweat
and tears getting out from under the banks, and I
certainly have no desire to do it again. I equate
it to losing weight. I never want to be part of
the 30% of the general population that is obese.
My debt to income ratio was way out of whack, but
now it’s trim. I feel a whole lot better and
have lots of energy.
Debt and weight for many is like a yo yo game,
but I’m winning in the game of life. Sure I would
like that new red juicy car with all the extra
stuffing. It is very tempting, but I am
continuiing to follow Dave Ramsey’s advice never
to take another bite from the devil. I wish
Michelle O’bama would formally announce a
“very ambitious” program to end the American
plague of adulthood debt obesity.
Banks are evil. Taxpayers so far have
three times bailed-out the financial institutions
and now our hard earned dollars are once again
being stolen right from under us through higher
taxes/fees and the silent thief called inflation.
Soon pensions, medicare and social security will
be taken from us too.
Many homeowners lost their homes, automobiles, jobs
and life savings to the banks in this continuiing deep
recession. It should have been a warning signal
to all of us, but unfortunately the saga and cycle
continues. Like food, loans are addicting and have
many pyschologically hooked.
